France Coach Deschamps Acknowledges Heat Challenge Ahead of Paraguay Clash
Didier Deschamps admitted the high temperatures expected in Philadelphia for France's last 16 match against Paraguay are "not ideal," but expressed confidence in his team's preparedness.

France’s World Cup journey continues with a last 16 encounter against Paraguay, but the match is set to be played under challenging weather conditions. Coach Didier Deschamps has acknowledged that the expected scorching heat in Philadelphia is far from ideal, though he remains confident in his team’s readiness to adapt.
“It’s not ideal. But I’m not too worried about the heat,” Deschamps stated on Friday, ahead of the crucial fixture. “Together with the medical staff, we’ve made sure that various measures have been put in place.”
Por que importa
The temperature is forecast to exceed 40 degrees Celsius, a factor that could potentially offer an unexpected advantage to the underdog Paraguayan side. Paraguay’s coach, Gustavo Alfaro, noted the similarity of the conditions to what his team experiences in Asunción.
“The weather is, of course, very similar to what we have in Asunción,” Alfaro said. “Even though we’re used to such conditions, this is weather that will undoubtedly influence the game.” Paraguayan defender Junior Alonso echoed this sentiment, adding, “That’s completely normal for us. Hopefully it will get a little warmer tomorrow.”
Unlike some other venues in the tournament, the stadium in Philadelphia does not feature a retractable roof, meaning players and fans alike will have to endure the full brunt of the sweltering conditions. French forward Désiré Doué also highlighted the physical toll the heat can take.
“We know the weather will be tough. You lose a lot of energy. You sweat more and lose more water. Sometimes your mind isn’t as clear. It was already hot when we arrived. Now it’s even hotter, but both teams have to deal with it,” Doué commented.
While high temperatures have not been a major talking point in the tournament thus far, FIFA had implemented mandatory hydration breaks during each half prior to the competition, a measure that will undoubtedly be crucial in Saturday’s match.
France, led by superstar Kylian Mbappé, has showcased some of the most impressive performances of the tournament to date. The winner of this last 16 clash will advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face the victor of the match between Canada and Morocco. The ability of both teams to manage the extreme heat could prove to be a significant factor in determining who progresses.
