Dodgers Secure First Extra-Inning Win, Reach 60 Victories

The Los Angeles Dodgers achieved a significant milestone on Monday night, becoming the first team in Major League Baseball to reach 60 wins this season. Their 60th victory came in dramatic fashion, as they secured an 8-7 win over the Colorado Rockies in the 11th inning, marking their first extra-inning contest of the year. This historic win came in the 92nd game of their season, the second-longest stretch without an extra-inning game in MLB history, trailing only the 2005 Boston Red Sox who went 99 games.

Early Lead and Rockies’ Comeback

The Dodgers established a commanding 6-1 lead through the first four innings. Shohei Ohtani contributed to the early advantage with his 299th career home run in the third inning, followed by a four-run surge in the fourth. However, the Colorado Rockies mounted a comeback, chipping away at the deficit.

Tenth Inning Drama and Controversial Plays

Entering the ninth inning with a seemingly comfortable three-run lead, the Dodgers saw the Rockies rally to tie the game against left-hander Tanner Scott. A crucial two-out, bases-loaded double by Cole Carrigg brought in two runs, and an initial call of safe at home for Hunter Goodman was overturned upon Dodgers’ review, which showed Rushing tagging Goodman before he reached the plate. A subsequent Rockies challenge for catcher’s interference at the plate was unsuccessful, sending the game into extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, the Rockies scored their automatic runner on a Jake McCarthy groundout. This was followed by a tense moment where Carrigg and Rushing exchanged words at the plate, briefly clearing both benches, though no physical altercation occurred. The Dodgers also managed to score their automatic runner in the bottom half of the inning but could not take the lead.

Walk-Off Victory in the Eleventh

After a scoreless top of the 11th inning by Edgardo Henriquez, the Dodgers found their opportunity. An intentional walk to Max Muncy and a Tommy Edman sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third. Dalton Rushing then delivered the decisive blow, hitting a single up the middle off Rockies pitcher Jimmy Herget to secure the 8-7 victory. This marked Rushing’s first career walk-off hit and ensured a successful conclusion to the Dodgers’ first foray into extra innings this season.
