The UEFA Euro 2028 tournament is officially returning to the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, with England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales joining forces to host Europe’s premier international football competition. Nine venues have been selected to host matches across the UK and Ireland. Alongside Wembley, other prominent stadiums include Glasgow’s Hampden Park, Dublin Arena, and the National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff. Other host venues in England feature Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Etihad Stadium, St James’ Park, and Villa Park. Notably, Manchester United’s Old Trafford did not meet UEFA’s standards for selection.

Tournament Format and Qualification

The Euro 2028 tournament will maintain its 24-team group stage format, consistent with editions since Euro 2024. The top two teams from each of the six groups will advance to the round of 16, joined by the four best third-placed finishers. From the round of 16 onwards, the competition will proceed as a straight knockout tournament.

UEFA has introduced a revised qualifying format for Euro 2028. Teams will be drawn into 12 groups of four or five nations, with each team playing home and away against every opponent.
