The Utah High School Boys Soccer 5A state tournament quarterfinals delivered intense matchups, culminating in four teams securing their spots in the semifinals. Maple Mountain, Hillcrest, Alta, and Bountiful emerged victorious from Friday's games, setting the stage for anticipated clashes at Zions Bank Stadium next week.

Maple Mountain Dominates Early

No. 6 Maple Mountain showcased a strong offensive performance, defeating No. 14 Salem Hills with a 5-3 scoreline. Nathan Pineda and Trey Bess were instrumental, each scoring twice to help Maple Mountain establish an early lead with four first-half goals. Despite a valiant effort from Salem Hills, who saw all three of their goals scored by Brooks Barker, Maple Mountain held on for the win. Their victory propels them into a semifinal encounter against No. 7 Hillcrest.

Hillcrest's Overtime Thriller

No. 7 Hillcrest secured their semifinal berth in dramatic fashion, with Jeter Pugh scoring a direct free kick in overtime to clinch a 3-2 victory over No. 2 Pleasant Grove. Pugh's game-winner marked his second goal of the match, complementing an earlier goal from teammate Carlos Leon, assisted by Weston Allen. Pleasant Grove's offense was led by Maximo Olmos and Sam Clark, but their efforts ultimately fell short. Hillcrest will now face Maple Mountain in the semifinals at Zions Bank Stadium.
