Jordan Walker Stuns Home Crowd to Win Thrilling Home Run Derby
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker delivered a dramatic upset victory at the MLB Home Run Derby, silencing a raucous Philadelphia crowd and outslugging hometown favorite Kyle Schwarber in a memorable display of power.

Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals etched his name in Home Run Derby history Tuesday night, clinching a dramatic victory at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The young slugger overcame a hostile crowd and a strong performance from hometown hero Kyle Schwarber to win the coveted title in a thrilling final round.
A City’s Passion
Philadelphia sports fans are known for their fervent support, and they turned out in full force for the Home Run Derby. The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd largely backing their beloved Kyle Schwarber. Even former Eagles standout Brandon Graham expressed a mix of pride and resignation, acknowledging Schwarber’s prowess while admitting a local victory would have been ideal.
Walker, who admitted to finding the Philadelphia crowd “brutal” at times, acknowledged the unique energy. “Honestly, I think it’s pretty special because they love their players,” Walker said of the fans. “And that’s what you want from your home, where you play. I mean, I’d never heard people cheer so loud like (when) Schwarber and Harper and those guys did their thing. But I can’t hate them because that’s their home. That’s where they play. So I’ve just got to play my game.”
A Surprising Performance
Despite Schwarber’s reputation and the crowd’s overwhelming support, Walker put on a breathtaking display of power. Many in attendance, focused on Schwarber’s potential victory, may have underestimated Walker, who had a relatively modest six home runs in 396 plate appearances last season. He had also struggled in previous appearances in Philadelphia.
However, in the final round, Walker found another gear, launching six consecutive home runs on his final swings to overtake Schwarber. Cardinals All-Star closer Riley O’Brien noted the shift in the crowd’s energy. “That last round, it got pretty quiet,” O’Brien said. “He was surprising some people. That run he went on at the end was amazing.”
Walker’s victory not only earned him the Home Run Derby trophy but also a $1 million prize, surpassing his season salary of $799,400. His father, Derek Walker, spoke about the experience, noting that the boos from the Philadelphia crowd were, in a way, a sign of respect. “They were great,” Derek Walker said. “They were cheering for their guy, like Jordan said, but what they kept telling us is, a boo in Philadelphia is a sign of respect. They booed very loudly; they respected us very well.”
Jaw-Dropping Home Runs
Beyond the drama of the final round, the 2026 Home Run Derby was marked by several awe-inspiring displays of power that pushed the limits of Citizens Bank Park. Royals outfielder Jac Caglianone launched a particularly stunning home run into the third deck in right field, a feat that even Kyle Schwarber admitted he had never achieved. “No. Never,” Schwarber said when asked if he had ever hit a ball that far into the deck. “Never. I might have maybe hit it off the facade, but honestly, never. Then Caglianone went up there, and I was like: Whoa.”
Willson Contreras of the Red Sox also put on an impressive show, with 13 home runs in his first-round performance. Five of those blasts traveled at least 470 feet, a remarkable number that drew admiration, even from baseball legend Barry Bonds.
