Eventually, she joined Hyderabad’s Nizam Club and in 2000, at the age of 14, she won her first national junior title. She became the youngest player to represent India in international competition when she played in the 2002 Commonwealth Games. She was on this trip with her mother and older sister Nadia Mirza, who is also a professional tennis player.

In 2004, at the age of 16 years old, Sania Mirza became the youngest tennis player to reach a Grand Slam final (Australian Open). In 2005 she made history as the first Indian woman to enter the top 10 world rankings. In the 2006-07 season, San ia became the first Indian woman to reach world number 1. Sania Mirza is often referred to as the “queen of tennis”. As a result, Mirza has been invited by several dignitaries and organizations for social events.
