Sinner Acknowledges Zverev’s Evolved Threat Ahead of Wimbledon Final Rematch
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner faces Alexander Zverev in a Wimbledon final rematch, but the German's recent Grand Slam victory has made him a different, more dangerous opponent.

Jannik Sinner, the reigning Wimbledon champion and current world number one, expressed a cautious respect for his opponent in Sunday’s final, Alexander Zverev. Despite a dominant recent record against the German, Sinner acknowledged that Zverev’s maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open has significantly altered the dynamic between them.
Sinner, aiming to become only the 10th man in the Open era to successfully defend his Wimbledon title, has won his last nine encounters with Zverev, including the past six without dropping a set. However, the Italian recognizes that Zverev’s triumph at Roland Garros has instilled a new level of confidence.
“Whatever happened in the past between me and him, it happened. In between, he won a Grand Slam in Paris, which gave him a lot of confidence,” Sinner said. “He is a tough player to play against. He was before, but now even more. He’s very relaxed on court at the moment. I will try to do the best I can but it’s going to be very, very tough – very different than all the other matches we have played.”
Zverev, who ended a long wait for a major title by defeating Flavio Cobolli in the French Open final, is eager to build on his recent success. The 29-year-old German stated, “Once you win a major you know how to do it and you feel like you can do it again. You have this feeling inside of you.” He added, “I stay focused. I stay hungry. I want more. I want to continue playing at the best level and continue winning. On Sunday I have another big chance.”

Formidable Players on Tour
Both Sinner and Zverev have been two of the most consistent performers on the ATP Tour this season, with each securing over 40 match wins in 2026. This strong form is set to be reflected in the rankings, with Zverev projected to rise to world number two on Monday.
Sinner reached the Wimbledon final after a commanding performance against Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, ending the Serbian’s bid for a record-equalling 25th Grand Slam title. This victory followed a period of uncertainty for Sinner, who experienced an unexpected early exit at the French Open due to physical issues in the heat. However, he has demonstrated resilience, mirroring his response to a tough final loss last year to Alcaraz, by reaching another Grand Slam final.
Zverev’s path to the final included a victory over British wildcard Arthur Fery. This marks Zverev’s first Wimbledon final appearance, and he aims to become the first man in the Open era to win his second major title immediately after his first. Notably, Zverev has not won a tour-level title on grass and would be the fourth player in the Open era to capture their first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.
Serving Dominance and Return Struggles
The final is expected to feature strong serving from both players. Both have maintained over 90% of their service games won during the tournament. Sinner leads in first-serve points won (85%) and aces (113 to Zverev’s 87). While Zverev’s serve quality and speed are rated highly, Sinner is recognized as one of the sport’s premier returners, outperforming Zverev in return metrics. Sinner’s groundstrokes also show higher quality ratings compared to Zverev’s.
This Wimbledon final pits two of the tour’s most in-form players against each other, with Sinner looking to defend his title and Zverev seeking to add a second Grand Slam to his name. The match is anticipated to be a highly competitive affair, reflecting their strong performances throughout the tournament.
